SeaWorld has a rich history that traces back to its origins as the Surfers Paradise Ski Gardens. Keith Williams, the founder of Sea World, originally started the ski gardens as a venue for water ski shows that combined action, aqua ballet, and SOS. The popularity of these shows eventually led to the gardens moving to land on The Spit in 1971 where they underwent major dredging works to build a new ski lake. What started as a niche attraction in the form of water ski shows eventually transformed into the beloved Sea World and continues to delight visitors today.
