What is a Carport?
A carport is a structure that provides shade and protection to parked vehicles against the sun, rain and any other weather elements. Carports can be built from various materials such as wood, steel and even fibreglass.
Carports can be made from various materials, including wood, steel and fibreglass. All of which can also be made to custom specifications by us based on your needs.
They are normally built over the top of your car, but it is possible not to block access to your car if you want them that way. However, they do need to be large enough for their purpose, which depends on how many cars you wish to park under them or provide shade or protection.
Why Choose carports over other options?
Homeowners select outdoor living spaces because they offer greater enjoyment while improving your property value for years to come. Carport structures improve your curb appeal and make it look more professional by adding an extension of your living space outside. This allows you to enjoy the outdoors even when there are inclement weather conditions in your area or if night falls before it’s time to retire indoors for bedtime!
The Cost of Carports
Prices for decks vary depending on a number of factors such as height, size, materials used and whether there are any structures nearby that could interfere with your plans (such as trees). The best way to get an accurate quote is by providing us with some details about what you have in mind so that we can come up with costs specifically for your situation.
Types of Carports
There are different types of carports to choose from – some are free-standing while others are attached to the house. Some examples include garage carports, pergolas, breezeways and more!
At Carports Gold Coast, we always go with what the client wants, but we can also advise what is advisable. When it comes to carports and pergolas, we choose the best materials for each project.
What to Expect from Carport Gold Coast
There’s a lot that goes into building a carport, so much so that even though it’s a relatively simple structure, it’s well worth seeking the help of an expert. When you hire us, this is what you can expect:

Composite Decking
We can make composite decks to suit your budget, style and space. Composite decking is a great alternative to traditional wood decks because it lasts longer and looks like real wood, but doesn’t warp or rot. With our decking, you can enjoy your outdoor space more often. Composite decks are becoming more and more popular because they don’t need a lot of maintenance. Composite decking can withstand hot and cold temperatures, so if you live in a place with wild weather variation then this is the perfect type of deck for you! One big advantage of composite is that it’s less likely to splinter than timber as well as is more fire-resistant.

Pergolas & Verandahs
Our pergolas are a stylish addition to any outdoor living area. They provide shade for you and protection from the elements. Pergolas can be made from a variety of materials including timber and steel to suit your style and budget. We can even build a pergola that attaches to your house or sheds as an added outdoor space! Our verandahs are designed to add value to your property and add a new dimension to your living area.

Carports
Our carports offer long-lasting protection for your vehicle against the sun, rain and wind. We build our carport with steel poles that are set into concrete foundations and tied together by crossbeams made out of steel or timber. The roof structure is also built using beams so it can be installed over the top of the carport easily! Our carports are installed with either grip-stud fixings, which means you can take them down and reinstall at another location; or we install standard bars every few feet (depending on size). If you choose to take it down and move it this will not affect the warranty as long as there is no visible damage like rot or rust.
Beyond Carports: Complete Outdoor Solutions
Many Gold Coast homeowners are looking beyond basic vehicle protection to create integrated outdoor living spaces. Our expertise extends to:
• Pergolas and patio covers that connect seamlessly with your carport design
• Deck and carport combinations creating functional outdoor entertaining areas
• Verandah extensions that provide consistent architectural styling
• Custom outdoor room solutions incorporating carport functionality
By integrating these elements, your property gains valuable living space alongside vehicle protection—particularly valuable in the Gold Coast’s outdoor lifestyle.

Timber Decking
Most of the decks that we make are made from treated pine or cypress as they are water-resistant and low maintenance. Timber is one of the most popular options for patios because it’s long-lasting, environmentally friendly and looks great! Timber decks are easy to install and maintain, which means you will be able to get the most out of yours for years to come. They expand and contract with changes in temperature, so it may need occasional sanding, re-oiling or staining over time. This ensures your deck will stand the test of time while enhancing the look of your home at the same time!

Pool Decking
Pool decking is another popular option which we can ‘knock up’ in under a week so you can start making the most of your outdoor living space straight away! Pool decks are a great way to upgrade and enhance the appearance of your pool area. They’re also a great place to relax and unwind on those warm summer evenings!

Patios
We can also make patios for your outdoor area. We’ll use treated pine for the frame and flooring as it’s long-lasting, water-resistant and easy to maintain. Patios are a great way to accessorise your decking. They’re also the perfect way to extend entertaining areas, allowing you to dine al fresco all year round!

Why Choose a Custom Carport for Your Gold Coast Property?
Gold Coast’s unique climate presents specific challenges for vehicle protection. From intense summer heat that can damage vehicle interiors to unexpected hailstorms and heavy rainfall during storm season, standard off-the-shelf carport kits often fail to provide adequate protection for the specific weather conditions of coastal Queensland.
Our custom carport designs are specifically engineered to withstand Gold Coast’s coastal conditions, including:
• High-velocity wind resistance for storm season protection
• UV-resistant materials that won’t deteriorate under harsh Queensland sun
• Corrosion-resistant components ideal for properties near saltwater
• Proper water drainage systems designed for heavy Gold Coast downpours
• Council-approved designs that meet all local building regulations
FAQs About Carports on the Gold Coast
How close to my neighbor can I build a carport on the Gold Coast?
On the Gold Coast, carports generally need to be at least 1.5 meters from side boundaries. However, this can vary depending on your specific suburb and zoning. In areas prone to stronger winds like coastal suburbs of Main Beach or Burleigh Heads, we sometimes recommend additional setback for structural integrity. I’ve helped hundreds of Gold Coast homeowners navigate these requirements and can guide you through the process for your specific property.
What is the setback for a carport in Gold Coast?
Gold Coast City Council typically requires front boundary setbacks of 6 meters for carports. However, in established neighborhoods like Southport or Robina, you might qualify for a relaxation if neighboring properties have similar structures with reduced setbacks. During our free on-site consultation, I’ll assess your property’s specific requirements based on your location and street profile.
How do I know that the decking that you build for me will last?
Our wood is of a higher quality than other company’s and we hope that gives us an edge, but it cannot be guaranteed because everyone has different needs. We can guarantee that your decking will be put together to the highest standard using our expertise, experience, and attention to detail.
How do you manage to keep prices so competitive?
We are confident in our products and services but are not prepared to make unaffordable promises or charge unfair prices to get business!
What is the maximum carport height in Brisbane?
While Brisbane regulations typically cap carport heights at 4.5m, Gold Coast properties often have different restrictions based on local character overlays. For example, in canal estates and hillside suburbs like Tallai or Reedy Creek, height restrictions may vary to protect views and neighborhood character. We’ll check specific limitations for your property during our assessment.
What other outdoor structures do you make?
We have a few structures you can visit on our website which you might find interesting. Consider starting with the carports, though!
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes, we are. We’re also fully registered and insured carpenters and possess all the required insurances, registrations and tax agent qualifications.
When can I expect my carport to be installed?
Our estimators will confirm an installation date with you after your order is placed. However, they generally take between 2-4 weeks from the time of order placement. Unless there are unforeseen circumstances such as location access or extreme weather conditions at play.
What is the minimum width for a carport?
For comfortable access on the Gold Coast, I recommend a minimum width of 3m for single carports and 5.5m for double carports. Many of our clients with recreational equipment like jetskis or trailers (common in waterfront suburbs) opt for extra width to accommodate their lifestyle needs. We’ll measure your specific vehicles during consultation to ensure perfect sizing.
